The project
SavoiaExperience is a project, funded under the INTERREG ALCOTRA 2021-2027 Program, which aims to create a tourist and cultural destination in the heart of Europe focused on the common history of the House of Savoy and in particular its emblematic and symbolic places.
The partnership, composed of two Italian (Piedmontese) and two French (Savoyard) entities, has already successfully cooperated and worked together during the project “The Dukes of the Alps,” funded under the INTERREG ALCOTRA 2014-2020 program:
- The Department of Savoy, the project leader, supported by the Department of Archives, Heritage and Museums, which manages Chambéry Castle and has been implementing a strategy of diversification and cohesion of territories for years.
- The Association Le Terre dei Savoia, spokesperson for a network of 47 municipalities committed to the enhancement of their heritage, operates in a corner of Piedmont stretched between the provinces of Cuneo, Asti and Turin that has known the influence of the Savoy dynasty and that holds five of which four are UNESCO World Heritage Sites (Govone, Pollenzo, Valcasotto, Racconigi and Moncalieri)
- FAI-Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano, a foundation that manages numerous historical, artistic and natural sites throughout Italy, including the Castello della Manta, a medieval fortress transformed into a sumptuous residence by the Marquises of Saluzzo, located in the province of Cuneo, with a wing built in honor of Charles Emmanuel I, Duke of Savoy.
- The Hautecombe Foundation owns the abbey of the same name, a necropolis of the House of Savoy.
Armed with their experience and as organizations with an important vocation of protecting cultural heritage assets related to the enhancement, promotion and development of tourism and culture, these partners are presenting a project to move forward and revitalize the dynamics of cross-border cooperation.
The cross-border approach is essential and makes it possible to combine a common history, complementary skills, and a unified offer with the aim of increasing the visibility of the new destination in the cultural tourism market, encouraging the exchange of skills and best practices, and improving local communities’ knowledge of the cross-border area. The goal of the project is to develop a new tourist destination by promoting the common historical and cultural heritage centered on the history of the House of Savoy through a cross-border cultural circuit.
The need to strengthen the knowledge of this common cross-border heritage and to be able to tell about it in an innovative way raised the need to present this project.
